INTRO

Sessions are very much dictated by the participant and his/her needs and are pretty intensive… a one-and-a-half-hour session usually keeps people going for a few months and a weekender (see below) for up to a year. 

CONTENT, LEVELS and AGE

Anything can be covered – 12 bar blues, improvisation, boogie left hands, jazz chords, intros/turnarounds/endings, composition, technique, theory etc etc.  An idea of what the participant wants in advance helps so some preparation can be done.   All levels are covered - complete beginners through to gigging musicians – and all ages and some tuition and advice can be delivered on other instruments.

RESOURCES

A free CD Rom with a whole host of resources, recommended listening and advice is provided as well as an audio recording of the session as an additional aide-memoir in addition to notes from the session and other printed worksheets provided as appropriate. 

FEES
Fees are £40 per hour total inclusive 1:1 up to groups of four and include an audio recording of the session, a free CD Rom of resources and other accompanying notes and resources as appropriate as well as Daniel's travel time and expenses
coming to you/the venue near you.
Rates for larger groups are available on request.
Hourly fees you coming to Daniel (in Scotland) are £30 per hour.

LOCATION
Sessions are at Aberdour, Fife, Scotland, if you come to Daniel or at locations/venues or in participants' homes on tour throughout the UK.  Contact Daniel to see when he's next passing your way.

Prices for all lessons and workshops including those on tour are £40 per hour for

A 2 hour one-to-one session usually lasts participants a good few months or even longer, so it's well worthwhile!

WEEKEND/LONGER COURSES
Intensive two and three day 'weekends' are also run from the Aberdour address from £240 including B&B, meals, airport transfer, resources, intensive tuition - with Edinburgh, Glasgow (including airport), just 25 minutes away and regular train direct to Waverly Station across the famous old bridge over the River Forth.
Daniel's address has a beach, harbour, golf course, great views across to Edinburgh and a great pub all 2 mins walk, with the station, castle, high street, post office and other local shops 5 mins walk.  Days, times, content, number of hours' tuition all details flexible depending on individual's needs and preferences.

After any session, an email helpline is available for any questions or queries arising from what’s been covered.  For juniors, parents are more than welcome to sit in on sessions or even video them.

DANIEL SMITH / Background

Daniel Smith is a qualified and experienced teacher with over 12 years' experience.

He has played blues, jazz, and boogie woogie piano for over twenty years.

He has had extensive classical training.

His workshops are one-to-one or small group.

They provide some great tips and practicalities of aspects of blues, jazz, and boogie woogie piano.

PARTICIPANTS / Taking part in the workshops

A great opportunity to pick up some simple tips first-hand.

Open to all levels - beginners to Grade 8 or giging musicians.

Open to all ages - parents are welcome to sit in or attend.

Bring along any music (books or tapes) you've been working on if you wish.

All lessons and workshops are available one-to-one or with two, three or four participants. Lager groups are possible by arrangement.

WORKSHOPS / Teaching and content

The teaching is informative, flexible and practical.

Daniel Smith creates an informal and relaxed atmosphere.

The content depends on the participants needs - whether this is improvisation, left hand boogie figures, right hand jazz chord sequences, song writing, or improving technique... you choose.

As well as being "shown" new tips and techniques, a written summary and cassette of your workshop as well as printed worksheets are all provided at the end.

Video recording of lessons and workshops is possible by prior arrangement.

A 1.5-to-2 hour one-to-one session usually lasts participants a good few months or even longer, so it’s well worthwhile!

Pricing on the Blues Weekends or Boogie Breaks varies depending on how many nights you are staying, how many hours tuition etc.

The £240 quoted at the top would be on the basis of something similar to:-

Arrival and pick-up Edinburgh Day 1 in the morning - 2 hours tuition – lunch - 2 hours tuition in the afternoon - free time - evening meal - free evening/self-practice - Day 2: Breakfast - 3 hours’ tuition - free time - transfer for rtn flight from Edinburgh late afternoon Day 2.

This schedule, time and the actual days are flexible depending on individual preferences.
