Fleet & Crookham Local History Group makes regular use of the display cabinet in the Heritage Zone in Fleet Library but also takes exhibits to the Dogmersfield, Winchfield and Crookham Village Horticultural Society Show and has loaned exhibits, for example to the Aldershot Military Museum.
This is the current exhibition on funeral directors, funerals and customs.
This fascinating selection from the archives has now moved to Aldershot Military Museum.
The Aldershot Museum provided the display for much of 2005.
Then the Hampshire Museum Service provided an exhibition of historic spectacles from their collection and Fleet & Crookham Local History Group provided local interest by adding a century old local pair from its archive and lists of opticians in Fleet from 1910.
This was followed by the Group display on County Commercial, showing pictures of the workshops, the many uses of a County Commercial Tractor, County memorabilia and news articles on County. It is hoped to stage another display on County Commercial.
In 2004, following refurbishment of Fleet Library, the Heritage Zone was opened on the first floor. This provided dedicated space for displays relating to the heritage of Fleet and the surrounding area. The inaugeral display was of local artefacts
The Royal Observer Corps Museum Trust provided a display in October, explaining the role of the Observer Corps but also providing fascinating detail about the local posts and the Observers, all of whom were part time in Fleet.
Some exhibits from previous years are described briefly here: 2002-2003
Fleet & Crookham Local History Group attended the summer show for the first time in 2005. We returned in 2006 with a completely new set of pictures on the Group display board, showing a wide variety of old pictures of the area, with a particular emphasis on Pilcot, Dogmersfield and Winchfield. The Group should be at the 2007 show with a new selection of pictures and articles of interest.
