Mission Statement
The Mothers' Union is a Christian organisation which promotes the well-being of families world-wide.
We achieve this by:
Developing prayer and spiritual growth in families
Studying and reflecting on family life and marriage and their place in society
Resourcing our members to take practical action to improve conditions for families, both nationally and in the communities in which they live.
Aims and Objectives
The Mothers' Union is a world-wide organisation whose aim is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life. To carry out this aim, its objects are:
1. To uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding
2. To encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church
3. To maintain a world-wide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service
4. To promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children
5. To help those whose family life has met with adversity

Bags of potential
Support …shop….promote

Sathya Handicrafts was set up in April 2005 in the tsunami-devastated fishing village of Chinnamudaliar Chadvadi in South East India. Its purpose is to provide livelihood support for survivors, giving them training and fair wages in good working conditions. Fifteen women are currently employed, mostly making screen printed organic cotton bags.
Vandanamu Fair Trade finds clients for Sathya Handicrafts and imports their goods to the UK, sending back all its receipts. In India all income remaining after payment of operating costs and fair trade premiums is used to buy sewing machines and other equipment so that more villagers can be employed.
Their good quality unbleached bags have already been purchased by two of our neighbouring dioceses enabling members to shop free of carrier bags and promote Mothers’ Union at the same time.
Our bags will be launched in October at the Green and Godly Day and would make a great Christmas present, folding up small and light to send to far flung destinations.
A simple short handled shopping bag will be available as well as a larger shoulder version with side gussets.
Who knows how soon carrier bags will be a thing of the past?
