Aims of the Portsmouth Amateur Diary
The Portsmouth Amateur Diary was set up to help amateur theatre groups in the Portsmouth area plan their productions better, avoiding clashes, and promote one another.
We believe that the amateur theatre groups in the Portsmouth area should help one another, not compete for members and audiences. By publishing a combined list of our forthcoming productions we hope that we can:
Help to
publicise the productions of member groups
Publicity can be expensive - it is important
to know that it is well targeted. It is very likely that the people who come to one
member's shows will be interested in seeing other productions in the same area. The list
of members' forthcoming productions published in the programme has proved a very effective
means of publicity, targeted at the people who are most likely to take notice.
Copies of the diary are sent out every month to all member groups and to 40 other
recipients, including local libraries (most of which display the diary on their notice
boards), Portsmouth Tourist Information Centres, Mike Allen of The News, The Journal, The
Messenger (Lee-on-the-Solent), Amateur Stage, Portsmouth Civic Offices and the Portsmouth
City Arts Office, Radio Victory, MyTV, and a number of individuals who arrange block
bookings for their friends.
Try to avoid
clashes of production dates
When planning the dates of your next show, it
can be very useful to know whether other shows of a similar nature are being planned in
the area at the same time.
How to Join
If you are an amateur theatre group performing in or around Portsmouth and you want to
join the Amateur Diary, it's easy. The subscription is only £10 per year
(which covers administration and postage costs).
Each month we will mail out to you a listing of the forthcoming productions of the member groups, covering the next 6 - 12 months. We also now add the details of your productions (and your group) to our web site, which is also updated every month. Listings are also sent to local newspapers and libraries.
In return, all we ask is that you undertake to add the latest listing to the programmes of each of your productions, and keep us up to date with the details of your future shows.
