| | Aims and Objectives
Philosophy
To develop the fun and exciting world of Paddlesport within the Southern Area
of the Sea Cadet Corps, whilst maintaining the three pillars of ‘Coaching’,
‘Competition’ and ‘Paddlesport Skills’.
Southern Area Paddling - Goals
Coaching
-
Increase the number of paddling staff within
Southern Area. (The aim is to have one Coach at each unit within Southern
Area).

Facilitate the shift from SCC Supervisor to BCU
Coaching awards.

Enable Cadets to work towards BCU Coach awards.
-
Provide continuation training for existing
Coaching Staff.

Monitor the number of Supervisors/Coaches and
provide details on their location and capabilities.
Competition
-
Provide an enjoyable, safe, competitive event
at Area level which will allow selection of the best cadets to represent the
Area at Nationals.

Provide training for cadets selected for the
National Regatta.

Improve Southern Area's performance at the
National Regatta.

Provide race training courses for staff to
improve the 'grass roots' coaching of racing at Unit and District level.
Paddling Skills
-
Provide progression courses to advance cadet
and staff paddling skills. Area courses will focus on intermediate and
advanced skills, introductory courses (BCU 1 Star) will be provided at
Unit/District level.

Promote Open Canoeing awards as an alternative
to Kayak based paddling.

Provide Safety and Rescue courses to enhance
paddler safety skills, facilitate expeditions (D of E) and to satisfy
Coaching pre-requisites.

Encourage cadets and staff to progress onto
specific disciplines at a higher level, for example: Sea, Inland White Water
or Surf.
