How to become a Coach

Would you like to Coach paddlesport and want to know how get started?

Coaching Paddlesport is a very rewarding experience; there are many aspects of Paddlesport which will appeal to different people for different reasons.  For example, some people enjoy introductory classes on flat water, others like rescue Coaching, others like teaching on the Sea, White Water or Surf.  Whatever your particular interest, we all have one thing in common.  Enthusiasm.

If you would like to be a Paddlesport Coach, the best way to start is through experience of a wide range of Paddlesport.  You can then work out what you like, and in turn, this will help you decide what type of Coach you'd like to be.  To give yourself some structured training, the 'Star' award scheme is a good way of gaining progressive skills.  As a guide, BCU 2 Star is considered the minimum personal skill level for Coaching others on flat water as 'Boat Based' Coach.
