Already a Coach?
If you are already a BCU Coach and you wish to put your Coaching skills into use for your Unit; that’s great news!
However, you need to gain authorisation before operating with Cadets at a Unit.
The following points all need to be answered:
-
Have you been CRB checked? Speak to your Commanding Officer / OiC about this. If you want to Coach groups of Cadets on your own, you will need to go through this checking procedure.
-
Do you still have current BCU membership? If you don’t, then you will need to re-join the BCU.
-
What BCU Coaching Award do you hold? This will control the type of water you can operate on. Your Coaching award and the type of water the Unit has access to will control what you can and can’t do. See TARS Chapter 6 for more detail on water types.
ASO-Paddlesport or your District Canoe Representative will be able to advise you if you are unsure.
-
To gain authorisation to operate at a Unit you need to demonstrate to
ASO-Paddlesport or an ‘SCC Grade 1’ that you have read and understood Chapter 32 of the Cadet Training Instructions and Chapter 4 and 6 of TARS. These publications contain the Sea Cadet training and badge structure and our operating procedures.
-
You must also copy your Coaching certificate, CST and First Aid to
ASO-Paddlesport.
