West Highland Way

If you walk with the group regularly, you will have already heard that Margaret, Cynthia, Steve and I had a brilliant time in Scotland, completing the 95-mile walk in 7 days. For the rest of you, I'm afraid it's a case of settling for the edited highlights.

The highs …

My bed in Balmaha. It was big and soft.

The pavlova and mashed potato at the guesthouse in Crianlarich. Not together, obviously!

Crossing Rannoch Moor, and the fond memories it brought back of a holiday to Iceland in 1985.

My first glimpse of Ben Nevis. Not surprisingly Britain's largest mountain nearly went unnoticed by Margaret.

The thunder, and inevitable downpour that followed, as we approached Fort William.

Seeing the latest Harry Potter film set on Glencoe.

… and the lows.

Stiff legs every morning.

Gluten-free sandwiches. Yuk!

Taking a tumble coming down Conic Hill and landing on a patch of thistles!

Day 6 - Blackrock cottage to Kinlochleven, climbing 800ft up the Devil's Staircase.

Cynthia not having enough time to visit Marks and Spencer in Fort William. Or was that a high?

The weird …

The cross-dressing gentleman at the Annadale Services, on our way to Stirling.

The sight of Cynthia's knee supports on the last day. I just wish we hadn't been eating at the time!

Cynthia's 3-foot synthetic thistles that had to be transported home.

… and the wonderful.

Completing the walk, and the sense of achievement we all got from it.
