Beginners Courses

We run Beginners Courses several times a year. These courses run for six weeks, one hour per week, on a Wednesday evening. Places must be prebooked** [ BOOK HERE ].

Archery is a sport suitable for young and old, for the supremely fit and those less so. Archery is a good source of exercise for those with physical handicaps, including those confined to wheelchairs and with other limits to their physical ability including the Visually Impaired. In most cases these people find it a sport where they can compete on equal terms with other archers.

We teach children accompanied by a responsible adult* - the only requirement is that the child is able to concentrate for an hour - some children can handle this at age eight, some cannot really manage it when they are eighteen!

Courses provide you with the use of all necessary equipment and insurance and have a coach : pupil ratio of about 1:2. The teaching is by GNAS qualified coaches and experienced archers. After completing a beginners course most participants are invited to join the Club. The current cost of a Beginners Course is £40.

If you would like to come and watch us shooting before making up your mind then send us an email to arrange a time.

* Under 18s must have an adult with them during their sessions - you cannot drop off and collect afterwards. The adult need not necessarily be on the course as well.

** Due to the increased popularity of archery, thanks largely to success in the Olympics, recent films, such as Lord of the Rings, and the BBC screening their new action drama, Robin Hood the current waiting list for a Beginners Course is growing ever longer and is currently over a year.
