“Fair daffodils, we weep to see you haste away so soon”. So begins one of Benjamin Britten’s Five Flower Songs, and with it came the inspiration behind the programme for this concert.
Entitled “A Garland for Spring”, this concert included music about Spring and the annual renewal of life within the natural world, and within that concentrated particularly on flowers; and somewhere in the middle, perhaps inevitably, were occasional allusions to the flowering of love which the poets have so readily associated with this season of the year.
