St Andrew's Church, Tower

St Andrew's Church is a unique part of the heritage of Medstead that we all share.

For nearly a thousand years, this Grade II listed building has been at the heart of the village, and our community. Most of us have had, or will have, occasions to use the church for the traditional public ceremonies as well as for its prime purpose of worship.

If you agree the church is an important part of the village and should be maintained in keeping with such a lovely place then FOSAC needs your help now.

 

Friends Of St. Andrew's

Many will see St. Andrew's for its historical and architectural value, as a building which enhances the character of our village. It is used by nearly all at some time for weddings, baptisms and funerals, as well as for regular church worship.

However, whilst the function and spirit of St. Andrew's is timeless, the building itself is not! Funds for maintenance, hitherto raised mainly by the congregation, are insufficient to save this historic building from increasing deterioration.

The Friends of St. Andrew's Church (FOSAC), a registered charity, was formed in 2001 in response to the many offers by the villagers of Medstead, to assist the church's regular congregation in the maintenance and restoration of this fine building.

The aim of FOSAC is quite simply to encourage the wider community to participate, in whatever way possible, in the preservation of this unique and ancient building for future generations.

This could be in researching the history or archaeology, helping with the maintenance, or financially. The latter will include raising of funds for both routine maintenance and for projects of a more expensive nature.

The last inspection by the Parish Architect highlighted the need for work to the windows and the roof. Additionally, the electrical system and heating will soon need a complete overhaul. There is also always much to do in the form of routine maintenance to both the building and the surrounding grounds.

The roof, in particular, was in urgent need of repair, having been last re-roofed in the 1920s it now required a spend of £120,000. Hence our first major fundraising campaign literally raised the roof.

You can become a Friend of St Andrew's by:

  1. Helping with fundraising, administration and maintenance.
  2. Regular monthly contributions, preferably by standing order through your bank.

Gift Aid It

If you are a taxpayer, using Gift Aid makes your donation worth more. Gift Aid allows the church to reclaim an extra 28% on all donations made under the scheme, so a donation of £100 is actually worth £128.21.
