Parish of Farleigh Pew Sheet

 Saturday & Sunday 26/27th January – Epiphany 4

God of heaven,

you send the gospel to the ends of the earth

and your messengers to every nation:

send your Holy Spirit to transform us

by the good news of everlasting life

in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Today’s readings

1 Kings 17: 8 – 16

God sends Elijah to Zarephath to be looked after by a destitute widow. She offers him, as her guest, the last of her flour and wine, yet miraculously the supply never runs out.

1 Corinthians 1: 18 – 31

Paul calls upon the members of the Corinthian church to consider the Christian paradox, that the foolishness of God is wiser than human wisdom.

Gospel acclamation

Alleluia, alleluia.

I call you friends, says the Lord,

because I have made known to you

everything I have learnt from my Father.

Alleluia

John 2: 1 – 11

At a marriage feast at Cana in Galilee, Jesus performs his first miracle by turning water into wine.  A moment of truth  recognised first by the servants and then the disciples.

St Leonard’s Church Open

From the 1st January 2007, St Leonard’s will be open from dawn to dusk. This is to provide a place for quiet contemplation and personal devotion to Parishioners and visitors alike.

There will be a trial period to ensure the viability of the open door policy. PC Reid has advised us on how to proceed, and anything of value has been marked, recorded and will be locked away.

Please help us by keeping an eye open for your village church, and please feel free to visit often.

If you are willing to help as a key holder on an opening and locking rota, please let one of the Churchwardens know.

We hope you will welcome this opportunity.
