A couple of days before Christmas 53 years ago a piece of West End heritage was nearly lost forever to fire after surviving 500 years of history. Today the Black Farm farmhouse, dating from around the 1600's, has been restored to its former glory but with a tiled instead of a thatched roof, hence the extra tall chimney stacks. This superb Jacobean period building has now been sub-divided into two homes although at various times it was a single farmhouse and then used as four labourers cottages. Ed.
