FRAYS STORE AT THE CORNER OF UPPER NEW ROAD AND HIGH STREET
CHRISTMAS DAY 1959

A little remembered accident happened in Westend on Christmas Day in 1959. The picture above shows the result and is displayed in the Museum; several people have seen it and recalled that one of the cars was coming down New Road whilst the other along High Street, one swerved to avoid the other and ended up INSIDE the corner shop! One witness mentioned the scene being covered in red; blood he thought, but luckily it turned out to be the stock of pulverised tomatoes. An unhinged door was apparently used as a makeshift stretcher for the driver. The shop was originally Langford's General Store. If anyone has more information about this incident please contact the Editor.
