VIOLET'S VARIED MEMORIES

STAFF AT THE SOUTH STONEHAM UNION IN MOORGREEN c. 1934-36

The hatless young lady in the centre of the photograph above showing the staff of the South Stoneham Union Poorhouse in the early 1930's is Violet Victoria Vare. Born in West End in 1910, she is now Mrs Violet Brown residing at Oaklands Nursing Home in Allington Lane. With the help of her friends Mr and Mrs John Hatch, she has kindly recounted some of her early memories.
Her father, Charles William Vare, known as Will, was a Miller at Gater's Mill, and was married to a local girl, Ada Littlefield. Ada, a kind and caring person, was the daughter of Harper and Helen Littlefield who kept the Moorgreen Inn at
