MEMORIES OF 'MR EASTLEIGH'

It was approximately 50 years ago that I first met the late Gordon Cox. I was a school friend of his eldest daughter Pat and since she lived near our school in Shirley, I was occasionally asked home for tea or a birthday party. Her mother, Mary, was a quietly spoken and kindly Yorkshire woman who made me welcome, as did her father. I quickly learned to mind my table manners because Mr Cox was clearly a strict father.                                              Continued on page 2
