The Yateley History Project

Version 4.0 (WEB VERSION)

In general the materials cover the area corresponding to the modern parish of Yateley, though some cover the ancient parish (modern, Yateley, Hawley and Cove), and other parts of Crondal Manor.

We hold almost NO information for any wider area than that.

All material is copyright of its authors and may not be published or used for profit without written permission of the copyright holder

The data files are password protected,
and are stored on a very SLOW server - be patient.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

THIS WEB SITE IS INTENDED FOR YATELEY HISTORY PROJECT MEMBERS ONLY
and to show other people the types of material currently available.

The Yateley History project materials form part of the "Members" section of the Yateley Society website, and most material is subject to third party copyright or data protection restrictions, which mean it is not normally possible to grant direct access to members of the public.

The Yateley History Project's policy is to answer specific questions directed by application here.  We try to help researchers as much as we can.  We expect those who obtain our help to provide their Yateley relevant historical materials to us in return, and in the case of family historians to provide their genealogical link from their Yateley ancestors down to themselves.

These open web pages allow historical researchers to know what sorts of resources we have available. In fact we have a great deal more than is on the closed website, both on computer and in traditional paper form, so it is better that we answer questions rather than grant access to the closed website.

A few items are already available on the "open" part of the Yateley Society website, and it is expected that there will be more of these available in future.

If you are interested in participating as a member of the Yateley History Project, please contact us.

Searching this material

The CDROM version can be word searched by any program capable of doing this. (Note when searching that HTML files use special codes for these characters, which may appear in files in this collection: <, >, &.  The hash character # is used in place of the £ (pound) sign.)

SEARCH ROUTINE FOR THE WEBSITE

This Search routine takes a few minutes to produce the output, and you will be given a link to access the results.
Please be patient: you should NOT submit repeated requests.
Doing so will SLOW things down, and may crash the server.

Note on viewing the picture files.

Recent versions of Windows allow zooming in and out of the images in the browser window. This facility can be added to earlier versions of Internet Explorer (versions 5 & 6) using the Microsoft program available at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previous/webaccess/ie5wa.asp.

Unfortunately the settings made on installation are incorrect and need to be changed so the plug-in works properly.

Find the folder "web" in the windows directory (i.e.usually c:\windows\web). Find zoomout.htm and edit the file using notepad or similar, so that the part starting reads - the order of these lines is important:

if ( parentwin.event.srcElement.tagName == "IMG" )
{
	h = parentwin.event.srcElement.height / 1.4142;
	w = parentwin.event.srcElement.width / 1.4142;
	parentwin.event.srcElement.height = h;
	parentwin.event.srcElement.width = w;
}
else
	alert ("You must right-click on an image to Zoom.");

Likewise change zoomin.htm to read:

if ( parentwin.event.srcElement.tagName == "IMG" )
{
	h = parentwin.event.srcElement.height * 1.4142;
	w = parentwin.event.srcElement.width * 1.4142;
	parentwin.event.srcElement.height = h;
	parentwin.event.srcElement.width = w;
}
else
	alert ("You must right-click on an image to Zoom.");
